In a previous post, I mentioned that I can write about 600-700 words in a single session before brain cramping out.
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is coming up this November and in a short 30 days, one is expected to write a 50,000 word novel. Break that down and it’s ~1,600 words per day.
Obviously, I’m not very well fit to handle this challenge with my current power level. And, not only would one have to write a minimum of 1,600 words per day, it would have to be every day of said month. Not an easy task, mind you.
At the end of things, I’ll still be writing during this November, but it won’t be a 50,000 word novel. However, I will be taking up the challenge to finish something, even if it’s only a short story.
My question for you is…
I can handle it — i just can’t seem to “win” it. My speed runs around 500 words per hour, and I work best spreading several hour-long spurts across a day.
That’s still amazing in my opinion. If you can write a grand a day, that puts a whole novel together in 2 – 3 months. Maybe I should try splitting up my work load throughout the day…

Think you have to have a few characters and a loose outline (or at least a plot start and plot finish) and be willing to write whatever comes into your mind (or in my case, in my character’s minds). I finished my most recent MS averaging anywhere between 500 and 3000 a day. But there were a few zero output days as well. And a lot of editing afterwards.
You write in first person, I take it?

I had my bad day, but then I would have great days, so yeah I can handle it. Maybe I did well last year out of ignorance so I guess I’ll see what I can do this year now that I know what’s in store for the month.
More power to ya. Yeah, November is finally coming up!
